The EduKit was designed out of the need for a better understanding of engineering for STEM learning efforts. My colleague Lulu and I began by reaching out to the Seattle Pacific Science Center when we had some downtime. The thought was to use our design skills to help out on a small project and potentially write about it. We quickly learned that there was a huge gap in the requirement to teach and test students in engineering and the support in place for teaching engineering to grades k-12. Our big A-ha moment came when we realized it's not "what is engineering" but rather "what can we do with engineering" this gave us a foundational context to teach from. We then created a small, handheld, booklet that served as a guide for teachers across the country. This booklet offered a guide, a template and a set of reference materials for teachers to learn, create and share their work in engineering.
